Traditional Design Workshop

At the May meeting, we were lucky to have our very own ‘queen’ of traditional designs Wendy, demonstrating and conducting a traditional workshop for us. Many thanks to Wendy for sharing her talents and skill in showing us the beauty and dignity of  traditional designs which are still very much in vouge for weddings and church occasions. All of us then enjoyed making our own traditional arrangements.

Contemporary Design Workshop

Linda and Jenny held a contemporary workshop in April where all of us enjoyed learning how to do fan shaped designs with pinning. Thanks to both for all their hard work in the preparation and presentation for this. The slide show below shows the pretty and wonderful designs made by our members.

Impose with a twist

On what turned out to be quite a hot autumn night in Melbourne, we entertained members from other floral art groups with a fun filled ‘Impose’. Beth did a lovely candelabra with flowers as Hyacinth Bucket, whilst Ria painted a wonderful wall hanging with sunflowers like Van Gogh. Chef Elizabeth made a beautiful Asian Influence design and Dinky Di Aussie Noreen made Banksias, gumnuts and bark come alive. Every one enjoyed the fun filled characters unfolding the ‘impose with a twist’ as well as the delicious supper that followed.

Waverley Garden Club Floral Art Group – February 10 Meeting

At our first meeting for 2010, Beth and Noreen gave us valuable tips on buying cut flowers, transporting and conditioning them, and the mechanics of flower arranging. We learnt the basic principles (balance, dominance, contrast, rhythm, proportion, scale, unity & harmony) and elements (space, pattern, colour, form, line, texture) of design.
Then we analysed the various designs of our choice(shown below) by applying the principles and elements of design.
Bench work title was ‘Holidays’ and we had lovely decorated knives as wired work.

Happy New Year from the Waverley Floral Art Group!

Our Last Meeting for 2009

On the 17th of November 2009 we had our last meeting for the year and the Christmas break up. The bench was filled with lovely Christmas arrangements shown above. The Christmas design chosen by popular vote went to one of our newer members CheGon Hashim.
We all enjoyed making bon-bons out of sisal sheets and Christmas bells out of polystyrene and ribbons.
We shared Kris Kringle gifts and a tasty supper to end an eventful year.

We wish you a merry Christmas and a safe and blessed new year!

October 09 Meeting

We had our 47th birthday meeting on the 20th of October and we had several guests from other Victorian floral art groups and garden clubs in attendance. In the absence of the guest demonstrator, our president Noreen gave a beautiful demonstration at very short notice. She made five lovely contemporary arrangements and all the guests appreciated her artistic talent and skills.
Noreen also celebrated her birthday on the 21st October.

Many Happy Returns Noreen!
