At the April meeting we had a Biedermeier workshop led by Noreen. We all learnt how to make these circular, classic, formal and compact designs by arranging various plant material – flowers, foliage and fruits in various groups and patterns to form areas of different texture and colour as shown below.
We had our annual workshop in April at the Burwood Heights Uniting Church hall. This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Noreen and Jenny showed us how to do contemporary designs with cane and wires whilst Elizabeth showed us a traditional Dorothy Paul plate.
Some of the church ladies also joined us and we all learnt new techniques whilst having fun making our own unique arrangements.
A big thank you to our three talented ladies for leading the workshop.
For our March meeting we welcomed visitors from other clubs for the Impose night titled Guess Who?
Our president led us through the history of Floral Art and gave us clues to what Ria, Alicja and Noreen were demonstrating while we had fun guessing who the original floral artists were. Ria charmed us with her beautiful traditional design of Julia Clements. Alicja did three lovely modern designs of Pamela Hailstone and Noreen concluded with some fabulous contemporary designs of Gregor Lersh.

Our very own president Noreen showed us a new wiring technique using 3 kinds of wires and we made bracelets which we could also use as structures in our floral designs.

At our last meeting for 2010, we had the Christmas breakup party with Kris Kringle and a delicious supper. Ria showed us how to make tear ribbon bows for wrapping presents. Jenny and Linda showed us how to make a unique Christmas Brooch. As shown in the slideshow below we had fun making and wearing them.
Early this month Jenny and Linda were invited to the Brighton Floral Art Group meeting and they did a lovely demonstration of ‘Christmas ideas’. In August they did a demonstration at the Ashburton Floral Art Group meeting where they made ‘simple easy designs that can be done using a few flowers from the garden and various components from the home’. The slide show below shows the fantastic creations by these 2 talented ladies. This slideshow requires JavaScript.
On the 19th of October we celebrated our 48th birthday which was very well attended by members of Ashburton, BoxHill, Brighton and Vermont floral art groups. Jeannie Finlayson delighted us all with an awesome demonstration and we are very grateful to her and her lovely assistant Trish who travelled all the way from Swan Hill. At the September meeting, we had a very informative workshop on Contemporary and Traditional wired Bridal Bouquets conducted by our very own experts Barbara Quinn and Val Wright. We all enjoyed making the lovely bouqets and learned a lot about the techniques in wiring, taping and arranging. A big thank you to Barb and Val for sharing their knowledge and expertise with us. On the 17th of August we had our Annual General Meeting. After serving at least 30 years on the committee, Pat Stephenson and Beth Ferguson had decided to step down. We thank them both sincerely for their wonderful service for the floral art group. After the AGM, our president Noreen had a great surprise for us. She and Barb had put surprise packs together and we enjoyed making colourful hats shown below.
