August 2012 to November 2012

2012 has been a very busy and eventful year for Waverley Floral Art Group members as it was our Golden Jubilee year. In August we had our 50th anniversary show with 74 competitive floral art entries on show (for photos see the Camellia Show 2012 tab).

We had our 50th Annual General Meeting on the 21st of August when we welcomed Sharon Cunningham as a new committee member. Jo White became the new treasurer as Barbara and Maree left the committee this year due to ill health. A big thank you to Alicja, Barb and Maree for their dedication over the years. After the AGM, our president Noreen surprised us with ‘lucky dip’ style kits and we all had fun making up all kinds of floral creations with what ever we had in the kit (see photos at the bottom of this post).

We all enjoyed the demonstration given by Patricia Insall from the Brighton Floral Art Group at the September meeting. She showed us how to make an old-fashioned ‘tussy mussy’ amongst other beautiful designs (see photos below).

In October, instead of our normal meeting we had our gala luncheon at the Masonic Hall to celebrate our 50th Birthday in style. Photos and the details of this event can be seen in the top menu tab under the title Golden Anniversary.

From August to November, most of our members were busy representing us at various shows in Victoria and demonstrating floral art at various events. Noreen, Elizabeth, Ria, Linda, Jenny, Alicja, Sharon, Elsie, CheGon, Bronwyn, Haeztra and Rob have taken part in Box Hill Floral art Show, Glen Iris Spring Show, Ferny Creek Spring Festival, Preston Spring Show, Ivanhoe Spring Show, Iris Society Show, Rose Society Show, Croydon Spring Show and the Latrobe Rose and Garden Show and won many prizes, trophies and ribbons. In the Box Hill show, Waverley floral art group members had 22 entries and at the Glen Iris Show, Jenny had a record of 8 entries and won 7 first prizes, a second prize and a blue ribbon. November meeting was our last meeting for 2012. We all had fun making Xmas decorations and enjoyed a lovely supper and KrisKringle. Photos of the Christmas bench arrangements are placed in the Christmas Photo Gallery.
