Sep/Oct/Nov 2015 Meetings
We had the Annual General Meeting in September chaired by Leanne Mason, secretary of the Waverley Garden Club. Rhonda Dare joined the committee along with Noreen (president), Elizabeth (secretary), Rosie (treasurer), Alicja, Haeztra, Jenny, Jo, Ria and Sandra. Noreen showed us some new techniques she learnt in Bunbury at the Blooming Arts Exhibition recently. Then we had a Dutch auction where we bought pre-loved floral art goodies at bargain prices to raise money for the group.
Members from Ashburton, Brighton, BoxHill and Vermont floral art groups came to celebrate our 53rd birthday with us in October when Heather Harrington, president of the Sale Floral Art Group did a fantastic demonstration of traditional designs. We were fascinated as she explained the traditional design details and showed us Topiary, Garland, Beidermeier and Symmetrical design on a pedestal. A big thank you to Heather for travelling all the way from Sale to be with us and sharing her talents.
We shared Kris Kringle and a delicious supper whilst making contemporary Christmas designs in the shape of a star at the December meeting. We had fun adding various Christmas decorations to paperbark covered stars (see the photos under the Xmas photo gallery). The Christmas bench designs were judged by popular vote. Jenny got the first prize and Linda got the second prize. Congratulations to the aggregate bench winners for the year — Noreen in Open, Sandra in Intermediate, Benu in Novice, Rosie in Wired Work and Haeztra in ‘From the Garden’.
