February 2016 Meeting

We started 2016 with a successful skills night on February 16th when some of our own members showed us a few techniques. Noreen showed us how to use wax and glue to create new designs and how to cut different sized rounds from leaves to pin or glue them to make contemporary designs. Elizabeth showed us various ways of manipulating Aspidistra leaves and Rosie showed us how to make different structures. Then Haeztra showed us the techniques of weaving and plaiting a flax leaf to make a three ply braid and a five ply braid.

Our bench was full with lots of entries for ‘Summer time’ and the horticultural ‘something from your garden’ seemed to be popular with a ‘spike, stem or truss’. See below for all the bench items and some of the arrangements we made on the day using the new techniques we learnt.
